paul ryan said is very interesting because we had an editorial on monday from glenn hubbard, mitt romney's economic adviser, essentially saying that yes, we recognize we need to talk about tax increases for the rich. i mean, he actually stressed that that should be the starting point of a discussion. he didn't say, glenn hubbard, that he increases -- he wants to see increases in tax rates. he was looking at closing loopholes, things like that, but he was willing to put that on the table. the problem, though, is that even if advisers like glenn hubbard are saying that, what we're seeing is people like paul ryan still very much signaling strong opposition to that idea. >> what's your head count in the senate, the number of republicans -- >> in the senate? >> yeah. >> i think the senate will pass whatever the leaders agree to. i think like with most of these things now, they'll have to go to the house floor without knowing -- without the votes. the question is who can you lose and still pass it? you'll lose some liberal democrats, but i think you're going to get a base support of dem

oklahoma republican tom cole, what does he think about mitt romney and paul ryan losing this election? his take away is this. the paul ryan budget passed a pretty big test. we had to run around the country and defend it. the ryan budget proved itself a viable platform on which to run and be reelected. wow. just to reiterate, this is what happened on election night. how does this constitute the ryan budget passing a big test. it took a big test but it did not pass that test, two very deficit things. the lesson of this election for republicans appears to be all that stuff we ran on, it totally worked. think about what determines what the republican party does next. what determines how they fix their political problems. the question of who is going to be the new face of the republican party and how they will course correct after this disastrously bad election for them, it all depends how they assess what just went wrong and why it went so wrong. what do they think their problem is that caused the country to reject them so emphatically in 2012. the signs how their self-assessment is going so f

. the convention did not so -- to not go so great, especially clint eastwood. paul ryan was a pretty strong collect -- pretty strong selection and was a strong campaigner and pleased the conservative base. on the other hand, the challenger did not when wisconsin, so it didn't pay off and that regard. but the first debate did pay off. romney came in well prepared. for a lot of people predisposed to not like him, he came off as presidential and smart and comfortable with himself. it was obvious the president prepared for the wrong debate. he prepared for romney to take a host of positions he did not put forth in that first debate. -- he was not able to keep it in that debate that followed. three quick narrative that turned out to be true but the american public. americans want to be helpful. during america -- during an election like this, they want to be inspired and told the world can be better. this is the main reason obama was let the first time around. had it was a lot tougher the second time because we're still experiencing a downturn, but he said stick with me and we can do this together. romne
